UTC Offset: UTC +6 |
Alma-Ata Time (ALMT) operated at UTC+6 hours, historically serving Almaty (formerly called Alma-Ata) and most of central and eastern Kazakhstan. Sometimes referred to as "East Kazakhstan Time," ALMT did not observe daylight saving time and stayed consistent year-round.
Importance and Global Use of ALMT
Alma-Ata Time was essential for supporting day-to-day life across central and eastern Kazakhstan, including in major cities like Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent. Its fixed UTC+6 offset provided reliable timekeeping for schools, government, public transport, and local businesses.
Internationally, ALMT helped coordinate trade, flights, and diplomatic connections with neighboring countries, particularly in Asia and Russia. Although Kazakhstan has since standardized to AQTT, the legacy of ALMT continues to be recognized in historical records and older systems.
